For those looking for a vacation in a more urban setting, the cities and towns of Algoma offer some world class attractions, both nature and man-made.
Take a boat cruise through the Sault Locks, the busiest lock system in the world. Stop at the Blind River Museum and enjoy artifacts from years gone by that highlight the area’s lumbering history, tour through the Norgoma, the last overnight cruise vessel on the Great Lakes. Explore the Chapleau Game Preserve, the largest in the world. Spend a day in Elliot Lake or a week enjoying all that this “Jewel in the Wilderness” has to offer. Stop in at White River the home of Winnie the Pooh. Traverse the longest continuous curve on the Trans Canada Highway. See the largest freestanding lighted cross in the world. Investigate the Agawa Indian Pictographs. Witness a 4,000 lb., 30 ft. Canada Goose (made of metal of course).
For those travelling by car, a series of driving tours can give the visitors a first-hand view of the rich history, the geography, the wildlife and the spectacular scenery that makes up Algoma Country. Maps and trip planners are available pointing out the various points of interest along the way. These tours include the Lake Superior Circle Tour, the Lake Huron Circle Tour and the Deer Trail Tour.
